The Rail Delivery Group - Project Test Manager & QA Manager Oct 2013 - Apr 2017

Contract renewals x 8 on what was initially a 6 month contract

Test Manager / QA Manager for specific projects within the multi-million pound rail modernisation programme delivered by multiple technology providers with RDG acting as the systems integrator overseeing customer acceptance on behalf of and with train operators, retailers and ticket suppliers, in total over 35 companies. Liaised with train operators, multiple ticket issue suppliers and 3rd party suppliers to ensure that a suitable level of interoperability, E2E, user and operational acceptance testing was completed.

 

  • Identified owning company users, owning company retailing ticket suppliers and completed coverage matrix for ticketing hardware and versions ensuring tickets could be sold via the web or at a ticket office covering approximately 70 differing combinations of retailing options
  • Attended board meetings on behalf of the user community and provided relevant updates and feedback
  • Produced RDG test artefacts, reviewed external test artefacts and undertook defect management
  • Compiled interface and performance business and system requirements
  • Led acceptance and Quality Assurance testing teams across multiple dispersed locations

 

Project Test Manager for a new Product Management System (PMS) Jan 2015 - Apr 2017

PMS allows pricing strategies to be developed through scenario-based modelling, and apply regulatory compliance management in relation to fare and product creation for Train Operating Companies.

  • Project managed within Agile and Waterfall environments, bridging the gap between the two.
  • Worked closely with the Department of Transport (DfT) ensuring that the delivered software met rail regulatory requirements
  • Ensured the integrity of the migrated data to cover 3 Fare setting rounds per year equating to around 855k fare product records per Fare Setting Round (FSR). Each FSR equated to around 20 million individual fare options at the Ticketing Information System (TIS)
  • Verify archive data back to 1995 was correctly migrated into PMS to allow for correct fares calculations

Migration of the ‘ticket on departure’ service handling annual ticket sales of £1.8bn at point of migration with the ability to process a billion tickets annually.

 

  • Successfully set up and completed E2E and UAT in 6 weeks in a domain with no prior industry knowledge where 2 previous Test Managers had failed
  • Identified and filled the project team’s skills gap in relation to test and implementation, that enabled completion of UAT and cutover to live running being achieved on time
  • Invested time in the development of credible working relationships with the suppliers resulting in mutual trust and respect throughout the project lifecycle and beyond

Senior System and UAT Analyst Coordinator primarily focused on system and UAT analyses, the preparation of test plans, test conditions, status and test completion reports with overall coordination for system and UAT test, SAP BO v4 profit reporting and SAP FI and support / maintenance. Verified that requirements met business needs in liaison with business representatives, ensured requirements were testable in both system and UAT phases and chaired the ‘go / no go’ project review and release meetings.

  • Conducted systems analysis and documentation of requirements of incoming BACS transactions translating into the VWFS SAP system and then correctly feeding back out in BACS format

Liaised with outsourced development projects to ensure quality acceptance plans were in place to verify delivered projects prior to installation. Put checks in place to verify the competency of the outsourced testers and proactively participated in stakeholder and tender team meetings preparing documentation to help secure further contracts.
